The
resort is located along the north-western shore of Techirghiol Lake, in
a valley surrounded by small hills and has a continental climate, the
effects of lake breeze are more intensive than those of sea breeze (the
sea is 3 km far).
The
town has developed in a region where human presence evidence have been
certified since Neolithic Age. The first document is certified in 1560,
when the settlement (Tekfür-köy) was mentioned in Sultan's papers; the
name has Ottoman origin and many legends about therapeutically effects
of the Lake are known. The most truth-like story refers to the gray color
of the lake water ("ghiol") and the waves form some stripes on
the water surface ("techir")
Techirghiol
is the only health resort of the seacoast where exclusive
rheumatic and gynecologic treatment could be followed.
On
1st January 1996 the population of the resort was 6949 inhabitants.
