To
the south side of the Roman Edifice with Mosaic
are "Therms" (Terme) built in the IV-th century; a large room 300
square meters was provided with marble floor; under it there was the
heating-system - "hypocaustum" - which was pushing the hot air up to
some narrow ditches. The underground corridors (big clay pipes) - were used as
tanks for current water brought from Ovidiu and Palazu Mare towns; asthe
water-corridor from Ovidiu town was the biggest in Roman Dobrogea - 3-4 meters
under Sea level and the water had to reach the fortress, the Half-Island had
to be penetrated. Two corridors have been discovered - one begins under
"Modern" beach, reaches "Tomis" Tourist Port (285 meters)
- and the other begins here and reaches the Roman mosaic monument (265
meters). They are dug 20 meters down the present town surface, built in Roman
brick and cement; they are 1.70 meters high and 0.90 meters wide.
