THE PAINTED TOMB

One of the most recent archeological discovery in town (25th February 1988) is extremely valuable and unique in Romania. This is located on the Seacoast, at the end of Stefan cel Mare St. (next to "Zorile" Restaurant). It is rectangular vault (2.80 meters long, 2.30 meters wide and 2 meters high), built in brick, the walls painted in fresco technique have anthropomorphic, zoomorphic and fitomorphic representations. The inventory isn't very various, the vault was looted: into four coffins there have been found four skeletons, the heads to west, the arms near bodies, as that time ritual was, also two glass vases and many beads. |
