Constanta Natural Sciences Museum Complex is really integrated in museums network and local administration subordinated. It was the first public vivarium in Romania.

Our activity is based on the same functions and activities, which are used by the other similar museums in our country: collecting living animals, conservation and research and specially popularization of the studies.

4 departments with living pieces compound Constanta Natural Sciences Museum Complex: Aquarium, Dolphinarium, Exotic Birds Exhibition and Micro-reservation. We have also an 8m diameter Planetarium.

Our specialists were permanent preoccupied to increase and diversify the patrimony, which is today about 25.000 pieces, representing fish, aquatic mammals, birds, mollusks and crusts, planetarium tools.

Aquarium, setup at 1 Mai 1958, with a very complex scientific activity tries to satisfy the human needs to be closer by the nature. Its patrimony exclusively represented by alive aquatic fauna, consists of salt and sweet water fish, exotic and Romanian fish, and also marine invertebrates. The sturion collection is representative and dominates by dimensions and longevity the others collections.

Dolphinarium has begun its activity at 1 June 1972, being the first museum with this profile form in the country. Dolphinarium patrimony consists in dolphins and sea lions, the principal purpose being biology research of aquatic mammals behavior in captivity. In the Black Sea, there are 3 dolphin subspecies: Marsuin-Phocaenaphocaena relicta, common dolphin-Delphinus delphis ponticus, and Affalin-Tursiops truncatus ponticus. The friendly and gentle behavior thru the man, their intelligence made accessible the training process, which are conditioned reflexes based by the food. Trained dolphins representations were a new museum form to exhibit our patrimony and to capitalize research activity of our specialists, consists in maintain and improve the optimal conditions of animals, just like in their habitat. Since 1995, the Dolphinarium’s patrimony was improved with 2 nice and healthy sea-lions (Otaria Byronia) from southern coast of South America.

Micro-reservation is a mini Zoo that lies on 4 ha and offers the possibility to our visitors to know some terrestrial and aquatic animals.

Exotic birds exhibition was included in touristic circuit in 1982.

Planetarium was set up in 1969.
