The
sculptor Ion Jalea was born on May 15th, 1887 in Casimcea locality from
Dobrogea region. He graduated High School of Arts and Professions from
Bucharest and The Belle Arte Courses.
He is the author of numerous sculptures made with different techniques.
His creation shows many themes, inspired of mythology, bible and history.
The
great master of Romanian sculpture left behind an impressive creation,
most of it made with just one hand, after being wounded in 1917, during
the First World War.
Among
the monuments he created there are Archer
resting (on the Casino’s cliff), Venus
(in Mamaia resort), Woman with harp
(in Medgidia city), Mircea cel
Batran (in Tulcea city).
Portraits
of Mihai Eminescu (the Romanian national poet), George Enescu (great
Romanian composer) and Liviu Rebreanu (famous Romanian novelist) are
exhibited in the museum’s collection.
The
“Ion Jalea” sculpture collection presents 108 pieces of sculpture and
graphic.
