The
museum offers you an image of Romanian history and Dobrogea territory from the
middle Paleolithic period (100,000-35,000 BC) until the present.
Rare
and sometimes unique, the archaeological artifacts from Hellenistic and Roman
eras are exhibited on the ground floor of the building. There you can see a
collection of Tanagra statuettes, the wide range of vessels from the
Hellenistic era, a collection of glass vessels (1st century BC), jewelry and
garments made of silver, bronze or gold.
FIRST
Floor
Here
you will find the exhibits of the archaeological vestiges from Prehistory
until the Middle Age. You can see pottery - from the Hamangia and Gumelnita
Cultures, tools and weapons made
by stone and the mineral silex, a Mycenaean sword (14th century
BC). You should also see evidence of the Greek Colonization (7th-6th
BC), artifacts from the Roman period, the material culture from the Early
Middle Ages, the period when it was perfected the first Romanian state
formations (a Romanian home from Capidava 10th century AD, cultic
objects).
SECOND
FLOOR
Located
on the second floor is Dobrogea's modern and contemporary history: the 1821
revolution led by Tudor Vladimirescu, the revolution years 1848-1849, the
unity of the Romanian Principalities from 1859 and the Independence War.
But
the most noteworthy exhibits are "The Fantastic
Snake Glykon" Statue
(the 2nd century AC) - unique, " The Thinker and his
Woman" (Hamangia Culture), "The Goddess Fortune and Ponthos"
(the 2nd-3rd century AC), " The Goddess Isis",
" The Thracian Cavalryman", Bacchus and Liturgical silver objects
from Sucidava-Izvoarele . The Pontica Symposium is organized every year.
